Dancing Against Dementia

Dancing has a way of bringing joy to the soul, and last September, we felt that joy ripple through our Victorian homes as we danced for a cause close to our hearts.

Through our “Dance Against Dementia” events during Dementia Awareness Month and Dementia Action Week, we brought our community together to celebrate, raise awareness, and over $8,000 for Umbrella Dementia Cafes to support those, and their families, living with dementia.

From ballroom dancing to disco parties, every moment of joy we created during these vibrant celebrations had a deeper purpose. We have the privilege of caring for many residents living with dementia, and these events offered an opportunity for them, their loved ones and our Victorian community to engage in this meaningful cause.

We danced, not just for fun, but for awareness, connection, and hope for a better future for those affected by dementia.

Dancing, connecting and making a difference

At Estia Health, everything we do is rooted in our commitment to enriching the lives of those we care for. This initiative was no different. We see both the challenges and moments of joy that come with dementia, which is why this cause resonates so deeply within our homes. We understand that behind every diagnosis is a family seeking support, understanding and connection.

Umbrella Dementia Cafes provide exactly that – warm, welcoming spaces where people can find friendship and support on their journey with dementia.

As the number of Australian families walking this path grows, so does the need for these vital community spaces. Our fundraising efforts have helped Umbrella Dementia Cafes expand their reach, establishing more cafes and much-needed spaces for connection and care.

Creating lasting impact

The impact of our dancing days reached far beyond our expectations. Kirsty Porter, CEO and Founder of Umbrella Dementia Cafes shared what our support means: "Thank you to every Estia Health lifestyle team who bravely shined a light on the beauty within each of your homes. On behalf of all our Umbrella Dementia Café members and volunteers, thank you for being the change. The money you have collectively raised has allowed us to extend and include more education in our five Carers Support Groups, which supports 42 family carers every fortnight."

During a special moment at our Ringwood home, we proudly presented a donation of $8,052.60 to Umbrella Dementia Cafes’ CEO, Kirsty Porter, and Operations Manager, Jess. Our donation was not just a financial contribution, but a reflection of our support to those living with dementia and their families.

In the rhythm of these special moments, we created more than memories. We strengthened the bonds that make our community extraordinary and showed that together, we can make a difference.
