Doreen first came to stay at Estia Health Wodonga for a short respite stay having moved up from Melbourne with her son who was also her carer.
During her short two-week stay she made the decision that when she was ready she’d like to call it her home permanently.
Doreen has been a resident at Estia Health Wodonga for 12 months now and she’s very happy, getting involved in a number of the daily lifestyle activities, including arts and crafts, exercise classes, she likes bingo, going for walks as well as enjoying time to rest.
When Doreen moved up from Melbourne and her son who was also her carer moved up to Wodonga to be near her. Doreen says of living in the home ‘You couldn’t get a nicer place. I came up here on respite about two years ago and I stayed about a fortnight and I enjoyed it so much, I relaxed, there was nothing tense about the place, the staff were marvellous, they look after you so well. I loved it so much that I knew that this was the place I was going to come to when I was ready.
So, I went home, and I got ready and I haven’t regretted it and I never will, because it’s a place like home’. ‘You have all the conveniences that you need, you just do what you want to do, and you get help doing that!
"I loved it so much that I knew that this was the place I was going to come to when I was ready...
It’s a lovely place, so relaxing, the food to me is home cooked food, it’s just lovely. You get enough food, you’re never hungry and if you are hungry you ask for something else. We are really well looked after. The staff are marvellous and all the people that I have met, we all get on.'
"It's a wonderful place."
