Almond, Registered Nurse
Nurses are an essential part of our teams, rostered on duty in our homes 24/7. A Registered Nurses is a qualified professional caring role with a practice built on person-centred care. Led by the Care Director they deliver all aspects of clinical care, with the support of the care team.
Almond is a Registered Nurse at our Estia Health Bannockburn home in Geelong.
Originally from the Philipines, he spent seven years as a Nurse in Charge in the acute setting in medical, surgical, paediatric and maternity departments before moving to Australia where he gained his Australian nursing degree from La Trobe University in Bendigo. Almond was looking for a fulfilling nursing role close to where he lived in Geelong when he was offered a Registered Nurse role at an Estia Health home.
Almond is dedicated to what he says is his calling. ‘To me, nursing is one of the noblest professions in existence today; it’s the foundation of every health institution. Nurses care for patients, or in my case residents and their families 24/7, 365 days a year’.
‘As I was taught, it is both a calling and a profession. I come from a family of doctors and have always had the passion to work in the medical and nursing field.’
Almond says his culture feeds his passion. As a Filipino, we look after our elderly at home and don’t have aged care facilities and that's why I’m enthusiastic about looking after the elderly, as I think of them as my grandparents. It’s about protecting the most vulnerable people in our society and making sure they get the best care possible.’
